The T640, Up Close
Front — Tower with Hot-Swap Bays
Up to 8× 3.5" hot-swap bays in tower configuration, with an optional 18× 2.5" bay chassis. The T640 is fan-quiet enough for office deployment but packs the same CPUs and memory as the rack-mount R740.
Rear — Full-Height PCIe Expansion
Up to 8× PCIe Gen3 slots (with riser configuration), dual hot-plug PSUs up to 1600W, and dedicated iDRAC9 management port. Full-height slots mean GPU and FPGA cards fit without low-profile compromises.

The T640 is essentially a PowerEdge R740 in tower form — same CPUs, same memory, same management. The difference is acoustic: the T640's larger fans run slower and quieter, and full-height PCIe slots accept GPU and FPGA cards that won't fit in a 2U rack chassis. If you prefer rack-mount density, see the R740 for the same platform in 2U.
Transparent Pricing
2026 Reference Pricing by Configuration
T640 tower servers rotate through our Hong Kong warehouse in smaller batches. We quote against live inventory — tell us your spec and we respond with availability.
Bare Chassis
On Request
Tower chassis + motherboard + PSUs. Tower form factor supply is smaller than rack, but we source from multiple APAC and EU channels.
Configured Tower
On Request
CPU + RAM + storage built to your spec. Tower servers often ship with GPU cards pre-installed for engineering workstations.
Rack-Converted
On Request
T640 with rack conversion kit installed — same platform, same quiet acoustics, now in your 19" rack.
Tower server pricing is quoted against live inventory due to smaller batch sizes. For the equivalent rack-mount platform at higher volume availability, see our R740 pricing.

What We Test Before a T640 Ships
iDRAC Lifecycle Logs
Power-on hours, thermal history, and recorded hardware faults — tower servers often have lower POH than rack equivalents.
Full Memory Diagnostics
All 24 DIMM slots tested. Tower servers that lived in office environments often show fewer slot-level issues than data center pull servers.
Acoustic & Fan Health
Fan spin-up behavior and noise profile verified — the T640's acoustic advantage is its selling point.
Drive Backplane & Controller
SMART data on all included drives; backplane variant confirmed (8× 3.5" vs 18× 2.5").
Physical & Cosmetic Inspection
Tower servers show wear differently — front bezel, side panels, and casters inspected for transit damage.
Report in the Box
Every unit ships with its per-machine diagnostic report and warranty. Full process: inspection guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a refurbished Dell PowerEdge T640 cost in 2026?
T640 tower servers are quoted against live inventory — the tower form factor trades in smaller volumes than rack servers, so availability varies. Contact us with your spec for a same-day quote.
What is the difference between the T640 and the R740?
Same CPU and memory platform. The T640 is a tower (or 5U rack-convertible) with full-height PCIe slots and quieter fans; the R740 is a 2U rack server with more drive bays and compact density. Choose T640 for edge/office deployments and GPU workstations; R740 for data center density.
Can the T640 be rack-mounted?
Yes — Dell sells a rack conversion kit that converts the T640 to a 5U rack form factor. We can ship with or without the kit. The 5U height is taller than 2U rack servers but gives you full-height PCIe and quieter cooling.
What condition are your refurbished T640 servers in?
Every T640 passes documented per-unit diagnostics — iDRAC log review, full 24-slot memory testing, acoustic and fan health check, drive verification, firmware updates, and physical inspection — and ships with the report and warranty.
Is the T640 loud enough to be a problem in an office?
No — that's the T640's key advantage over rack servers. Its 120mm fans spin at lower RPM than a 40mm rack fan, so noise at idle is comparable to a desktop workstation. We verify fan profiles before shipment.
